bahoozah
In 2023 daptika created the Bahoozah, an electronic bass instrument, for a project with Forest Tribe Dance Theatre which he co-founded. He wrote and produced the music for the piece which was funded by Arts Council England. The Bahoozah is based on the medieval hurdy gurdy, a string instrument with a rotating wooden wheel used to bow the strings making a unique drone sound. Dave wanted to bring this kicking and screaming into the 21st century with a motorised wheel and a range of electronics to modulate the haunting rumble created by the bowed strings.

The result is a deep bass drone with a huge range of weird sounds and percussive tones that can be modulated live so that no two performances are the same. Daptika uses the bahoozah as a haunting backdrop to some of his music.
